Improving Your Child’s Health Every Day

Child's HealthIn today's society, it has unfortunately become increasingly harder to keep up on the health and nutrition of the lifestyles of our children. French fries and potato chips are prepackaged and ready right there for your children to eat. Picking up fast food is quick and easy, much faster than cooking up something at home, but unfortunately it is extremely unhealthy for our kids. Fortunately, taking the initiative to living a happier, healthier lifestyle does not require completely removing the indulgence and simplicity of junk food from our lives.

Soft drinks are a great place to start. Children are drinking them at younger and younger ages, and the majority of their caffeine intake comes from sodas. By cutting back on your child's soft drink intake, you are reducing their chances of obesity, caffeine addiction, dehydration, and dental cavities. Fortunately there are some great alternatives to sodas, such as milk, fruit juices, and water. These are great drinks to slowly introduce to your child, and can greatly improve their health and overall wellness.

The amount of food our children are eating is growing and growing as time goes on. Portions have grown to be far out of control, and it's not uncommon for children to be eating portions comparable to what their parents eat. Smaller plates are a great way to reduce portion sizes, as you cannot fit as much food on them and the smaller amount of food also doesn't seem so meager when put on a little plate. It's also important that your child gets the children's meal when buying food from restaurants and fast food chains. By instilling a good sense of portion control to your son or daughter when they are young, you're ensuring they'll grow up with a healthier sense of just how much food they need to eat and reducing their likelihood for future weight problems.

What child doesn't try to sneak the cookies out of a cookie jar? Kids have always loved sweets, and it's hard to resist the pleading eyes of your baby, but too many sweets can lead to obesity, diabetes, and many more health problems. Fruits are a great substitute for sweets, and slowly introducing fruits and fruit-related desserts is not only healthy, but can be very fun! Bursting with vitamins and antioxidants, fruits are not only healthy but also very colorful and pretty, and it can be a great bonding experience with your children concocting new and colorful fruity desserts.

Of course, while nothing beats a homemade lunch or dinner for your child, we are so busy these days that completely cutting out fast food can be awfully hard to do. Fortunately, most fast food restaurants have come out with alternative foods other than french fries and sodas (Things like fruit slices and milk.) to buy with your child's kids meal, and these are certainly better than fried foods and sugar. So keep an eye out and order these for your children whenever you visit your local fast food chain.

When everybody gets involved, taking the initiative to living healthier can be fun and very rewarding. Remember to introduce all of these exciting lifestyle changes slowly, as children are often very wary of sudden change, and might even refuse the idea if they have to change their current lifestyle too much. Child obesity is growing in today's society, and taking whatever steps to reduce this risk for our own children grows more and more important each day.
